Variational AI will take part in BioAlberta’s annual Health and Life Sciences Showcase (HLSS), taking place September 24, 2026 at the Calgary Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel. HLSS is BioAlberta’s flagship gathering for the province’s life sciences community. The 2026 program includes panel discussions across two rooms, guest speakers, BioAlberta’s Annual General Meeting, and the Investor Engagement Summit, where Alberta companies pitch to a panel of investors and meet with them one-on-one for feedback on their technology, business, and growth plans. The day closes with a networking reception and the Networking Dinner and Awards, where BioAlberta presents its Company of the Year, Science and Technology Innovation, and Vista awards.

Handol will speak to how generative AI is being applied to small-molecule drug discovery, what separates a working discovery platform from a promising model, and how Canadian life sciences companies can build partnerships with global biopharma from a domestic base. Variational AI is Canada’s only independent generative small-molecule platform, and works with partners including Merck/MSD.
