Vancouver, Bc (Or Remote) / 15+ Yrs Experience / Full Time

Variational AI is building a platform to redefine the unit economics of drug discovery. We are pushing the state-of-the-art in machine learning, integrated with cheminformatics expertise, to radically accelerate the development of promising drug candidates for diseases ranging from cancer to COVID-19. Our small team of machine learning researchers and chemists is challenging the status quo with our proprietary machine learning architecture, designed from the ground up to optimize the properties of small-molecule drugs. We are venture-backed and expanding.

We are looking for a senior technical executive skilled in leading and managing programs, teams in small molecule therapeutics across multiple disease areas. You will help us to hone strategy, identify targets that are likely to benefit from our unique machine learning-based approach, and work with the scientific team to more effectively incorporate pharmacological knowledge and intuition into our algorithms. This is a key executive role that will evolve and expand as the organization grows. Your responsibilities will start with a heavy emphasis on early-stage discovery, but then transition to in vivo and preclinical development. No knowledge of machine learning is required, but you should possess a strong interest in learning about this promising technology, coupled with hands-on drug discovery experience.

  • Combined 15+ years’ experience working in small molecule drug discovery in scientific roles in a large pharmaceutical company, as well as overall drug discovery responsibilities from early-stage to IND in a venture-backed or small-cap public biopharma company.
  • Track record of success in supporting executive and business development teams in the preparation, presentation, and closing of licensing agreements of NCEs.
  • Experience in managing preclinical CROs
  • Ph.D. in chemistry or related disciplines, with exposure to cheminformatics/CADD.
  • Expertise in virtual high throughput screening using techniques like docking and ligand- and structure-based pharmacophores, as well as ADMET modeling.
  • Intellectual curiosity and drive to excel.
  • Familiarity with machine learning is preferred but not required.

We are an equal opportunity employer and enthusiastically welcome applications from women, BIPOC, and members of underrepresented communities and groups. Compensation is a competitive mix of cash and options. We prioritize expertise and passion over where you decide to live and work. Please send resumes/CVs to
